Free or Reduced-Cost Comprehensive Home Assessment

The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program offers free or reduced-cost comprehensive home energy assessments, also referred to as an energy audit, to income-eligible owners of 1- to 4-unit residential buildings.

  • A participating Building Performance Institute (BPI) Accredited Home Performance Contractor will provide a home assessment to identify energy saving opportunities.

What is an Energy Assessment?

Also known as an energy audit, is the first step toward saving on your monthly utility bills. A comprehensive energy asssessment provided by an Energy Alliance-approved Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® contractor is more than a simple walkthrough. Our assessment is a 3-5 hour analysis of your home's air leakage, heating and cooling equipment, utility usage, insulation needs, and mechanical systems.

Quick Energy Tips...to Save You Money!

  1. Make a quick trip to the hardware store or home improvement center for a hot water insulation kit to wrap your water heater and save on water heating costs.
  2. Ensure that your whole system (i.e., furnace, heat pump, air conditioner, and heating and cooling) is energy efficient. Leaky ducts can decrease the overall energy efficiency of your heating and cooling system by as much as 20%.
  3. Run your washer, dryer, and dishwasher only with a full load.
  4. Seal and insulate your home to improve comfort and reduce heating and cooling costs. EPA recommends Home sealing to improve your home's "envelope" or the outer walls, ceiling, windows and floors.

If these tips aren't enough...We can evaluate the performance of your home and generate a customized list of improvements.

  • Improvements may include sealing air leaks, adding insulation (Home Sealing) or sealing Duct air leaks.
  • It is common to trace high energy bills to an in-efficient component (windows, heating and cooling equipment, ducts insulation) of your home or a failure of one of these components to perform as intended.
  • It is not always easy to pin-point the problem, but fixing it can make your home more energy-efficient and comfortable.
